§ 01About the project

Geita Gold Mine is the largest gold mine in Tanzania and one of AngloGold Ashanti's flagship operations globally. Located in the Geita Region near Lake Victoria, the mine comprises multiple open pits and the underground Nyankanga and Star & Comet operations. Geita produced approximately 504,000 ounces of gold in 2023, making it one of Africa's top-producing gold mines. The Tanzanian government holds a 16% free-carried interest through its partnership agreement with AngloGold Ashanti.

§ 02What it aims to do
  1. 01Maintain gold production above 500,000 ounces per year
  2. 02Expand underground mining at Nyankanga and Star & Comet to replace depleting open pits
  3. 03Extend the mine life beyond 2030 through brownfield exploration success
  4. 04Implement the Tanzania partnership framework for equitable economic benefit
  5. 05Deliver industry-leading safety performance across all operations
  6. 06Sustain community development and environmental stewardship programs
